Invitation to support Russian Academy of Sciences

Dear colleagues,
 
Perhaps you know that Russian Academy of Science is now in a very dangerous situation
and may be destroyed in the nearest future, see e.g. article in "Nature".
Your signing the letter of support addressed to the Russian Authorities (below) would be highly appreciated.
The letter was initiated by experts in humanities but it reflects concerns of all researchers.

We hereby express our deep concern about the planned reorganization of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN). We believe that the intended changes – as reported so far - would seriously damage the effective pursuit of science and scholarship in Russia, and harm the independent position of the humanities, in particular.  

We call on the Government and President of the Russian Federation, and on the Deputies of the Duma, to give more time to discussions concerning the reorganization of the RAN, with full involvement of the scholars and scientists affected, and of other stakeholders in research and scholarship in Russia.
